The place where MTR's really suck is in mud, but then they aren't designed for that. I figured I'd try them the first winter to see how they did in the snow and then decide whether to sipe them - never saw the need. I considered having mine siped when I bought them but I heard from a few people who did that and then had chunks of tread break off when rock crawling. Will I buy another set when these are gone? Most likely. Do they perform in the snow as well as my wife's ZJ w/ BFG AT's? No, but a lot of that is probably the longer wheelbase. ![]() Can I drive in the snow with them like I drive when it's dry? No. I've been running these in 33x12x15 on my DD TJ for the past three years with no problems whatsoever in the snow. The last Discount Tire I was at had better prices, and could get any tires you wanted in a day or two, if they didn't have them on hand already.įor those saying GY MTR's don't do well in snow - I guess it depends on what you're basing that claim on. Don't be tricked into buying from somewhere disreputable just for something like that. You have no worries about IROCs, cause I think the smallest they go is 36s.ĮDIT: Also, EVERYONE that sells Pro Comps is having that sale. If it's a toy like mine, get aome Intercos of some sort, anything except the SSR. I would say, if it's a DD, get a radial, I know people who love their Pro-Comp MTs. The rubber is pretty stiff though, attributing to the 60000 miles and still about 1/3 tread. I've had them about 2 years and 60,000 miles with no problems. I'm running a set of 245-75-16 all terrains on my daily driver f150 from the same place, and have had no problems. That spare cost me $90 brand "new" from the retreader, and I'm sure will be great for a spare (never had to use it yet). It actually weighs about half what my claws weigh, just by my highly calibrated arm. I've actually got a 35" mud spare that's a retread from a BFG KO, and the sidewalls are pretty thin. ![]() I don't know anyone who's really super impressed with either the MTRs or the X-Terrains. My rig is a toy though, and the only street time it sees is to the trail and back. They're pretty soft though, which makes them sticky, but also wear fast. They grip really well, and haven't been able to damage one except the normal chunks out of the tread. I'm running 35x12.50x15 Baja Claw radials right now, and they've been all right.
